2024: Testing a new generation of autonomous medical endoscope using AI technology
Testing a new generation of autonomous medical endoscope using AI technology.
The goal of the project was to automate the work of a new generation of robotic endoscope video cameras for endoscopic minimally invasive surgical operations or other procedures using an artificial intelligence so that the surgeon no longer has to hold the endoscope (arthro-, laparo-, cysto-, thoracoscopes, etc.) with one hand during operations and can devote himself to operating with two hands at the same time.
Within the framework of the demo project, the YOLO artificial intelligence program was mainly used and validated to control the device in a way that was convenient for us, which adjusted the prerequisites for the manufacture of an AI-controlled device capable of actually working in operations. According to tests performed on a plastic model of the joint, the artificial intelligence program we tested and validated can automatically control the prototype robotic endoscope arm movement according to the movement of surgical instruments, freeing the surgeon’s hands from constantly holding the endoscope, while also fulfilling the intended goal of the project.
